- 3 cups all purpose flour, sifted
- 1 cup cocoa powder (Dutch process), sifted
- 2 1/2 cups granulated white sugar
- 1 bar unsalted butter
- 1/4 tsp salt (omit the salt if you use salted butter)
- 3 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 4 Large eggs
- 1 cup Milk
- 1 tsp. vinegar (lemon juice)
- 1 tsp. vanilla extract
- 1 cup warm water
For chocolate frosting
- 1 cup Milk
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 all purpose flour ,sifted
- 1 tsp. vanilla essense
- 1/4 cup chocolate powder (Dutch process); also you can use chocolate bar instead of cocoa powder (omit the milk) and use butter.
Chocolate Cake: Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (180 degrees C). Butter, or spray with a non stick spray, a 9 inch (23 cm) round cake pan and line the bottom of pan with parchment or wax paper
Line the 9 inch(23cm) cake tins with greaseproof or other non-stick and grease the tin.
In a bowl mix together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.In a separate bowl put the water,milk, lemon juice, and vanilla extract.
Then in the bowl of your electric mixer, or with a hand mixer, beat the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs, one at a time, beating until smooth. Scrape down the sides of the bowl as needed. Add the flour mixture and beat until incorporated. Then add the water mixture and stir until smooth. Pour into your pan,smoothing the top.
Bake in preheated oven for about45 minutes, or until the cake springs back when lightly pressed and a toothpick inserted in the center of the cake comes out clean. Remove from oven and place on a wire rack to cool.
Frosting: Place the the frosting ingredient in a sausepan. Heat and stir constantly, and let stand at room temperature until it is of pouring consistency. Then pour the frosting over the cooled cake. Let stand until frosting has thickened.
This chocolate cake is moderately sweet.
